A few month back, I had the pleasure of visiting the Hotel Schweizerhof in Bern for an event of exception with Hennessy Cognac founded by Richard Hennessy (1745).
This special evening “Cognac & Dine” was a promise of fine dining which they didn’t fail to deliver.
No wonder when we know the excellence of the Hennessy house and what it stands for.
The night was all about cognac. It started at the Schweizerhof’s bar with small bites & cognac, went on at Jack’s Restaurant where we had a multiple course menu. Then we ended our course migrating between the cigar lounge and the lobby bar for a last “signature cocktail” – from the house’s Chef mixologist.
In total we have tasted 4 different types of high quality cognac, each one of them with its very own characteristics. My favorite one was the “Richard” which happens to be the oldest of them all, but also one the world’s most luxurious and prestigious blend. It hides a rich selection of approximately a 100 different types of eau-de-vie which are as old as 200 years old.
During this evening, each plate was accompanied by a sip Hennessy which was different each time. It was about blending tastes, discovering new flavors, and really!.. learn that a good dish can be savored with something else than wine.
