But thanks to our tech-friendly world and its many applications and softwares, this isn’t much of an issue these days. Korea Travel Guides

1) Kakao Map (number one for traveling in Korea)

Best way to find your way in Korean cities!

The first must-download app is ‘Kakao Map’, if you are planning to travel to Korea. It may be good to set aside the Google suite of your smartphone.

Google Maps cannot show you the way to your destination due to Korean laws. Kakao is the Google Map of Korea.

It is Korea’s dominant map searching and it lets its users find different places in English.

Finding your destination in Korea is made much easier by public transportation. You can use it while walking, going to take your buses, and subways to get to your destination. You will see Kakao Map is a great app for traveling around Korea.

There is also Naver Map, but many have found that it doesn’t provide the same level of detail as Kakao Map does – this may be due to Google’s government restrictions in the country.

Kakao Map has good user-generated content that comes with many photos and a star rating system. Most of the reviews are largely in Korean though.

The best way to know if a place is good for you before you go is by reading the reviews and looking at the pictures to get the feels and look at what they have.

2) Kakao T (Kakao Taxi)

The top taxi app in Korea and Seoul is Kakao T or Kakao Taxi.

Kakao T was created in 2017 by Kakao Mobility Corp, a subsidiary of Kakao. It can provide taxi-hailing, designated driver booking, parking availability in your area, and traffic data in real-time.

In most cases, public transit is more convenient and affordable than taxis in Seoul.  When you need to take a taxi after midnight, whether you have your hands full with baggage, or need more reassurance on the route drivers are taking, I recommend using Kakao taxi app.

It works just like Uber. Pick your destination & location, then request a taxi when you’re done. Simple. You can track your taxi’s position and plate number on the app as soon as it answers your call. You can rest assured that you won’t be scammed.

3) Visit Korea Travel Apps

Another important recommendation on the list is the ‘Visit Korea’ app. It was created by the Korea Tourism Organization. This app can provide tons of information about Korea, no matter where you are.

The app includes beautiful and exciting things such as attractions, festivals, foods, transportation, accommodations, shopping centers, and more.

The Korean government has also put together a great website where you can find reliable, up-to-date information about traveling to and living in Korea. It incorporates everything from tourist information to life skills and tips that any traveler or expat might want for long-term migration.

4) Kakao Talk (to talk with new friends)

The only Korean messaging app you need

Kakao Talk is the WhatsApp of Korea. Every single Korean I’ve met uses or prefer to use Kakao to communicate. If you’re planning on using Airbnb to accomodate yourself, book any sort of tour, or meet up with a new friend during your trip, then Kakao Talk will come in handy. It is definitely the most useful communication app in Korea.

5) 지하철 – Subway Korea (to find your way)

My favorite Korea travel app

지하철 is the navigation service that can help you find your way and destination through Seoul’s subway system.

Not only is the Seoul Subway the most convenient and fastest way to get around the city, it’s also very clean, efficient, and safe.

Seoul’s subway is undoubtedly the quickest and most convenient way to get around Seoul. It’s also very efficient, clean and safe. There has no robberies reported since it first opened in 1974.

The Subway Korea provides the fastest route to the destination, how long it will take to get there. It also shows timetables for each station as well as price fare.

The locals prefer it to other forms of transportation as well.

6) 배달요기요 (Yogiyo)

Best food delivery app!

배달요기요 (Yogiyo) is an app that delivers your food and drinks. And when it comes to that, Korea is heaven.

Before Uber Eats even existed (2014), Yogiyo was conquering South Korea (2012).

In many senses, The Korean [food] delivery service tends to be ahead of the game in terms of efficiency, affordability, and quality of service when you look at it internationally. And Yogiyo (the best) provides a great example of this.

If you are too busy to cook, you are in a park or at the beach. Don’t worry! You can order food from the Yogiyo app and have it delivered to you. All you have to do is choose what you want off their menu and place your order!

In other words, you can order almost all kinds of food by a phone call and app, and it will be delivered to your place in 30 minutes.

What sets Korean delivery apart from others is that you can order food and have it delivered when you are outside like the Hangang-river park.

You can have fresh draft-beer with fried chicken by the river just by touching a few buttons on your phone.

The most famous foods ordered in Korea are ChiMeak (Fried chicken with beer), Tteokbokki (Spicy rice sticks with pepper sauce – very hot!!), and Jjajangmyeon (Chinese style noodles with soybean sauce – don’t eat it wearing white clothes!!).
